The only downside is you can’t change the labels on the scribble strips, but it shouldn’t take long to memorize which buttons are which. Now our sound tech has quick access to activate the stream and to switch inputs, all from existing buttons on the sound board. You can use any channel, we’re using MIDI channel 1 for lighting, and channel 2 for streaming in our setup.
Make sure the channel and value match the channel and note settings you programmed in vMix. Now, we need to map the assignable buttons on our X32 to send the correct MIDI notes to vMix. Each one gets assigned a MIDI channel and note. We set up a shortcut for each input (Camera and Computer) and also created a shortcut to toggle the actual stream on and off. These are configured under Settings->Shortcuts->MIDI Next, we need to set up a couple Shortcuts in vMix. This allows us to receive the MIDI signals from the sound board.

The Mac then broadcasts the MIDI notes it receives from the sound board out across our normal IP network to our streaming and lighting computers (both running Windows) using a program called rtpMIDI.įirst step, fire up the rtpMIDI application on our streaming computer (named barnabas), and connect it to our ProPresenter Mac (named paul). The X32 is connected to our ProPresenter computer (Mac) using a cheap USB MIDI adapter from Amazon. We already have a MIDI network setup between our X32 sound board and the three computers in the booth (ProPresenter, Lighting, and Streaming). It has a web interface, and you can map shortcuts to MIDI notes. Luckily, vMix has a couple methods of remote control. However, this presents some issues if we don’t have anyone available to run the stream, as it’s now out of reach from the ProPresenter system. We moved the streaming computer to the other end of the booth so it’s next to the camera, so everything is in one spot for the streaming operator. Now that we have some more volunteers we’re splitting the stream off into its own position, so the ProPresenter operator can just concentrate on graphics and the sound guy can concentrate on the sound. It’s typically been the ProPresenter operator’s job to run the stream, and the sound guy’s job to manage the camera. We’ve been streaming our services with vMix for a while.
